The Joseph Taylor Robinson Memorial Auditorium, completed in 1939, has served Little Rock and all of Arkansas as the premier creative arts outlet for 75 years. The original building was designed by architect Eugene Stern of the Wittenberg Deloney firm, and is listed on National Register of Historic Places. Partially funded by the Public Works Administration (PWA), this municipal project was considered one of the finest buildings in Arkansas at the time of its construction, praised for its massive form and grandeur. In 2014, Little Rock's Convention and Visitors Bureau, having concluded that the 75 year old complex needed major updating, selected the team of Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects of Little Rock and Ennead Architects of New York to lead the transformation. The soon to be completed seventy million dollar renovation builds on the historic structure's storied tradition, keeps the things that were great about the venue, but transforms the performance hall and meeting spaces into fine modern elements never foreseen in the original. Panelists will tell it all!
Architecture and Design Network (ADN) lectures are free and open to the public.
