This fall, the Milwaukee Public Museum Future Museum design team of Ennead, Thinc Design, and Kahler Slater embarked on a seven day journey across Wisconsin. The goal of the trip was for the design team to familiarize themselves with the peoples and places who may have relationships with the Future Museum, who may have stories to tell and whose landscapes and cultures will inspire its design. The tour included stops at 28 Wisconsin sites and led into the seven month conceptual design phase of the Future Museum project.
Milwaukee Biz Times article on the Future Museum notes that the design team is focusing on designing a museum that will be authentic to Milwaukee. In the article, Ennead Partner Todd Schliemann says, "This isn’t the same museum that’s going to be on the West Coast or the East Coast. It’s of this place. When we’re gone, it’s your building. We’re designing it for Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It’s yours."
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also highlights the Future Museum design effort, noting that the museum will incorporate the intersection of nature and culture and community, as well as the connection between architecture and design, with the hopes of making the museum a future community space. Quoted in the article, Todd Schliemann says, "I want people to go there to say this is mine. This is my home. I want it to be a statement of us - Milwaukee and Wisconsin."
