Ennead is pleased to share that AIA Nebraska, A Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, has recognized Steelhouse Omaha with three design awards: Design Excellence Detail for the Monumental Stair, People’s Choice Detail for the Monumental Stair, and People’s Choice for Interior Architecture.
Omaha Performing Arts' (O-pa) Steelhouse Omaha, is a live music venue that provides flexible entertainment spaces and programming opportunities that embrace O-pa’s mission to enrich the community and support evolving community needs.
The monumental stairs within Steelhouse Omaha carry the building's industrial feel from the outside in. The team needed to balance the iconic use of steel with the need for superior acoustics. The stairwell is sheathed in thin metal panels atop one-inch-thick acoustical mesh panels to absorb sound. The stair panels were hand-selected to ensure the grain was consistent between bands. Custom L-shaped brackets follow the rhythm of the panel installation. The beauty of the stair results from maximizing the structural and aesthetic qualities of the steel while minimizing the fussiness of the detailing, paring down extraneous elements until only the most essential remains.
